Sons and daughters; a
play on the quest of happiness
on Saturday 19/10, at
18.30 and 21.00, at Bios (84 Pireos st)
(in Greek with English
surtitles)
Sons and daughters
a play on the quest of happiness
a play on the quest of happiness
Five young performers
travelled all over Greece (from Athens to Thessaloniki, Crete, Mykonos, Corfu,
Amorgos etc) for 13 months, interviewed senior citizens and asked them to
remember the single, significant story that changed their life.
Out of 85 different
stories, they picked those that were more attached to historical events and
enact on stage true episodes that happened during the declaration of War by the
Italians, the invasion of Greece by the Germans, the build of the Berlin Wall,
the Coup of the Generals, the immigration to Germany, Australia and Canada, the
rise of the Social-democratic party of Andreas Papandreou until the Athens
Olympic Games in 2004.
The final play is a
mosaic of unwritten short stories of the everyday life, which sometimes loses
its way, but insists on wanting to be happy in a parallel world under the
official, recorded History
The performance
premiered at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival in June 2012 with great success
and received outstanding reviews from the press. Since then, Sons and Daughters
has been performed in continuous sold-out nights in Athens and has been touring
both in Greece and Europe.
PRESS QUOTES
-The best performance of
this year's Athens and Epidaurus Festival!
A humanist theater in the
paths of Mnouchkine with minimal props and actors like multitools.
(Ioanna Mplatsou,
Kathimerini tis Kuriakis)
-Sold
out! Not a single ticket left for all three show dates of Sons and Daughters in
the Greek Festival!
(Elena Galanopoulou,
tospirto)
-Una grande lezione di
teatro contemporaneo che appaga e commuove! Con una semplicità che sa
meravigliare.
A
great lesson of contemporary theater that satisfies and moves! With a
simplicity that knows how to surprise.
(Omar Manini. Whipart.it,
Udine, Italy)
-The
actors dramatist with incredible skill and bravery, combining folk music with
handmade musicians sounds causing thrill and laugh naturally. Beautiful
pictures etched in memory. (Chara Kiousi, cosmo.gr)
-A
great journey, a different "liberating" course of human history,
where theater is united with real historical events. (Penelope Christopoulou, Artatnet)
-A
genuine riposte to widespread despair and blackness that dominates our
lives. A huge "YES" to life.
(Savvas Patsalides
Aggelioforos tis Kuriakis)
-Inspired,
original and surprisingly healing. Clear and multi-layered at the same time,
Sforaris’ new work is one of the best moments of the Greek Festival. (Tatiana Kapodistria, to spirto)
-A performance-experience for the viewers. (Ioanna Kleftogianni, in2life)
-Touching
and hilarious at the same time. A new theatrical experience that speaks to our
souls in an intense and magical way.
(Tatiana Theodorou,

-Human
and lucid, extremely inventive, with a rare honesty on stage. A sweet and
emotional narration of the Greek History. (Stella
Charami, Eleftheros Tipos)
-Feeling
happy after seeing a performance is something that rarely happens to me. A
performance that should be taught in schools, not as the past but as Greece
nowadays. A slap in the face. (Thomas Sideris, artfix)
